SAVE THE AMERICAN FUR COMPANY!
Just like to point out that beaver skins were not used for hats--the fur was. It was removed, boiled to form felt, and that was used to make the hat.
See: http://www.desertusa.com/mag04/jun/hat.htmlThe beaver trap was placed in the water, so that when caught, the beaver drowned. I don't know, but highly doubt the beaver would be able to bend itself around to gnaw off a leg caught in a trap.
